Hello lovely soul! Happy pretty leaf season ❤︎
If you’ve been here for a while you’ll know i’m a summer girly through and through but I must admit I feel quite cosy and autumnal as i’m writing this. I have a little jumper dress on, fairy lights twinkling in the background and of course a toasty coffee *gently prompts reader to grab a cuppa*.
The past few weeks have been a case of I don’t wanna do it…but i’m gonna do it anyway. Motivation, self belief and my usual level of bubbly hopefulness felt pretty much non existent. Staying focused has been a task in itself and I couldn’t place why I was feeling this way… then I picked up my sketchbook.
Despite designing next year’s calendar (stay tuned for launch dates) and finishing up a client project, I felt a lack of creativity. I should know better by now that digital drawing doesn’t always fill that creative cup. I’d gone too long without picking up a real pencil that it felt unnatural at first, but boy am I glad I did.
Isn’t it bizarre that we often neglect the things that we know make us feel better because in the short term they might feel more effortful? I’ll let you ponder on that one.
Planting little treasures
Let me paint the scene… It’s the fourth day into editing my next YouTube video and the tip-tap tip-tap of my keyboard has slowly become the soundtrack of my life. The hours fly by and the image of both my face and work have become engrained in my brain, to the point my mind begins to spiral with questions such as…“Am I spending my time wisely?…is this cringey?…am I marketing my work correctly?…WHAAAT AM I DOIIING?!”… Then my phone buzzes. It’s my partner in crime aka my boyfriend (who’s also in the creative industries). As we’re catching up on each others day, I share how doubtful and embarrassed i’m feeling about what ever it is i’m trying to achieve with my work, when he says something that replaced the tip-tap of my keyboard and negative thoughts;
“All the work you share, even if it doesn’t get much recognition now, imagine it’s like planting little treasures for people to stumble across in the future, so that when they do find your work there’s a whole chest of treasures for them to go through”.
To anyone that feels like they are putting in the work, the hours, the graft but not feeling seen, I really hope this stays with you and reminds you to keep planting those little treasures.
Collaboration and Calendars
Sooo as you all probably know by now… i’m partial to a good black coffee (i’m Italian okay, it runs in my blood)… annnd that’s the only hint you’re getting for this collaboration. I will no doubt be documenting the whole process both on here and YouTube…oh I am a tease.
Click that’s the sound of me ordering my 2025 calendars. Let me tell ya - this design took a lot longer to create than I thought it would but they are finally done, finally ordered and almost ready to share. I hope you like ‘em :)
You heard it first
I’m planning my next YouTube video and I thought it could be fun and insightful to do a creative couples Q&A. Some say cheesy. Some say cute. I say hopefully hilarious and helpful. Darren aka Flam Homewares and myself will sit down and have a chitter chatter over all things freelance, running a business, finding our feet and ultimately finding each other because of our creative pursuits. Feel free to comment, DM or email me any questions you have for us!
Until next time lovely souls,
